| Nirmita Dholakia is the president and co-founder of Sadhana School of Indian Music in Chicago and the first Asian-Indian Grammy member of the Chicago Chapter. Recorded as a child artist by "All India Radio", Gauhati, for Pradeshik Sangeet, Nirmita's career spans over 30 years in the performing arts in singing, painting, dramatics and dancing, including 6 years of training in Kathak and a few Shankar's weekly paintings. Nirmita's vocal training in Indian classical music is credited to ten years from the Mani Manjusha Sangeet Academy and later, under the guidance of world-renown artist, Pandit Ronu Majumdar, through whom she has earned her certification as a vocal instructor. Additionally, Nirmita is a recipient of "Chitrahar Chicago TV" special recognition award and received many regional, state and U.S. National Awards in Indian Folk Dancing as a choreographer; and performed at the Festival of India at the invitation of the Consul General of India and Governor of Illinois. For the past 11 years, Nirmita has directed and promoted Indian cultural shows through the Indian Medical association of Indiana, to the American community - one of many programs was televised by an American cable channel. Nirmita has also written and directed "Pratignya - Our Pledge" and "Journey of A Spirit - Life and Work of Swami Chinmayananda",. | In April 2001, Nirmita recorded "Brahmarpanam" with the Grammy nominee Pt. Ronu Majumdar, titled, which was also short listed for a Grammy nomination. In 2003, Nirmita recorded "Satyaghari" with Grammy Award winner, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. |
| In that same year, Nirmita launched a not-for-profit music school in the U.S. called "Sadhana School of Indian Music".
